Tangy, spicy, and soul-soothing, Lemon Rasam is a classic South Indian dish often enjoyed with rice or sipped like a warm broth. Made with tamarind, lemon, and freshly ground spices, this light dish is equal parts comfort and refreshment.






✨ Ingredients

  • ½ cup toor dal (pigeon peas), cooked and mashed

  • 1 small lemon (juice)

  • 1 small tomato, chopped

  • 2 cups tamarind water (soak tamarind pulp in warm water, extract juice)

  • 2 dried red chilies

  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds (farm fresh 🌿)

  • 1 tsp Rasam Powder (farm fresh 🌿)

  • 8–10 curry leaves

  • 1 Tbsp ghee (or oil)

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander for garnish






👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. In a pot, combine tamarind water, tomato, salt, and rasam powder. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.


  2. Stir in cooked dal and bring to a gentle boil. Adjust consistency with water if needed.

  3. Heat ghee in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, dried red chilies, and curry leaves—let them splutter.

  4. Pour this tempering into the rasam. Turn off heat, add lemon juice, and stir well.

  5. Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve hot with rice or as a soup.
